The institution’s policies are clear concerning ownership of materials, compensation, copyright issues, and the use of revenue derived from the creation and production of all intellectual property. From our “Athens State University Guidelines Concerning the Use of Copyrighted Material” is a general statement: “Faculty, staff, and students of Athens State University are expected to follow the current laws regarding copyright and fair use of intellectual property. To assist the members of the Athens State University community in following the law, the university is providing various forms of information about the state of copyright and fair use.” This policy addresses ownership of materials and copyright issues. To assist with questions and financial arrangements related to copyright and fair use, Athens State University has referred to the Copy Right Clearance Center.
Specific to compensation and use of revenues for materials created by Athens State faculty and staff, refer to the Employee Handbook, part 6.12 “Faculty-Created Materials and Works - Copyrights, Patents, and Royalties.”
